SSI DIVE CONTROL SPECIALIST
This is a dive leader course, a combination of PADI's Divemaster and Assistant Instructor. Therefore as a Dive Control Specialist also known as DiveCon, you are allowed to teach certain courses unlike a PADI Divemaster.
Since this is a dive leader course, we will not offer this course in a one or two week format. This course will take around 4 months, because we believe as a dive leader you need to be very knowledgeable about every aspect of SCUBA and teaching SCUBA. You will be required to assist with at least two Open Water Classes. By assist, we mean you are there for the entire course of the class.
We believe in making qualified dive leaders and not just issuing certification cards. Lloyd Bailey's Scuba and Watersports refuses to send unqualified dive leaders out into the SCUBA community to teach and watch over other scuba divers. This is why our DiveCon program is so long, in some instances it might be shorter depending on the experience and skills of the DiveCon candidates.
DiveCon certification will give you valuable teaching experience to prepare you for an Instructor Course.
PREREQUISITES
- Be at least 18 years old
- Logged at least 60 dives
- Have logged dives in different environments (Night, Boat, etc)
- Own scuba equipment of leadership quality
- Be certified at least Advanced Open Water
- Have a current medical exam
- Complete a Rescue course or equivalent
- Proof of current CPR and First Aid

DiveCons who have an active
status with SSI and have current liability insurance may:
- Conduct Scuba Skills Updates
- Teach Snorkel Diving
- Lead Dive Trips as a Divemaster
- Assist with Open Water Classes under supervision of Instructor
- Attend an Instructor Training Course
- Teach and issue certification cards for Boat Diving
- Teach and issue certification cards for Equipment Techniques
- Teach and issue certification cards for Navigation
- Teach and issue certification cards for Underwater Sign Language
- Teach and issue certification cards for Underwater Photography
- Teach and issue certification cards for Underwater Video
- Teach and issue certification cards for other specialties as allow
by SSI
- Hold Try Scuba pool sessions
- Become a ReactRight Instructor (First Aid/ CPR)
